    Description

1800's silver plated advertising tea or coffee pot which is marked as shown for J.J. Baxter Sour Mash.
    Base is marked:
"Middletown plate Co. Quadruple plate Hard White Metal"
I found a reference on- line to J.J.Baxter in the book "Prohibition in Mississippi" by Thomas Jefferson Bailey.
    The author states:
"Along in 1896 blind tigers were rather numerous in Jackson and the name J.J. Baxter occurs very frequently as a violator of the law." (blind tigers being illegal or unlicensed dealers in liquor.)
I have no way of knowing if this is the same J.J. Baxter and I will guess this piece is at least as early as 1890's.
Piece is a little rough but still a great rare piece. Plate has worn off mainly on the handle and spout. It has a few little dents and dings and is being sold as is.
Take a good look at the photos as piece is being sold as-is.
